Lacquered floor care

A lacquered floor has a clear sealed coat sitting over the timber, so you clean it, you don't oil it.

Everything below suits lacquered timber. Start with the concentrate for everyday cleaning, add a refresher when the sheen starts to dull.

Before you buy: keeping a lacquered floor looking new

Lacquer is a wear layer, so the aim is to protect it and clean it gently, not to feed the wood underneath. Use a pH-neutral wood-floor cleaner and a barely-damp mop for everyday. When the floor starts to look dull in the walked-on areas, a refresher coat helps restore the sheen and buys time before a full recoat. In a typical home a lacquered floor goes 10 to 15 years before it needs a professional recoat, less in a busy household.
