Oiled Floor Care NZ — Cleaners, Oils & Kits

Oiled timber floors need different care than lacquered ones. The oil sits in the wood, not as a film on top — so soap-based cleaners are the right choice, and standard hard-surface or lacquered-floor cleaners will gradually strip the finish or leave a streaky residue.

Not sure if your floor is oiled? Our 60-second floor finish identification guide will confirm it.

What's in Our Oiled Floor Care Range

Oiled Floor Care Rhythm

  • Daily/weekly: sweep + damp clean with a soap-based cleaner. Never use excess water.
  • Quarterly to half-yearly: apply a maintenance oil to high-traffic zones (entryways, kitchen, hallways). Wipe any excess after 15–20 minutes.
  • Annually: full-floor maintenance oil application.
  • Every 5–10 years (depends on use): professional re-oiling — talk to a flooring installer.

What to Avoid on Oiled Floors

  • Lacquered-floor cleaners. They strip the oil over time and leave a film that blocks re-oiling.
  • Alkaline household cleaners. Same problem — oil is broken down by alkaline pH.
  • Steam mops. Drives moisture into timber joints and breaks down the oil bond.
  • Vinegar or citrus cleaners. Acidic, etches oil finishes.
