FirstFloor GrainGuard in matt, plus the microfibre applicator pad that lays it down thin and even. A protective coat for lacquered timber and parquet floors that are looking dull or lightly worn, and the tool to apply it with.
!For lacquered floors only. Not for oiled, waxed or raw timber. Test a small, hidden area first.
GrainGuard is our own-brand surface treatment for lacquered timber and parquet floors that are starting to look dull or lightly worn. FirstFloor describes it as an occasional maintenance step, sitting between routine cleaning and a professional recoat.
That word occasional is what this kit is built around. FirstFloor's stated frequency is up to four times a year, so unlike a one-off job the pad is not bought for this coat. It is bought for the next several.
Contents are this kit's own listing. Coverage and frequency are as stated by FirstFloor; pad dimensions and the wash figure are Bona's.
Run the two figures together and the shape of the kit shows. A litre covers 60 to 80 square metres and FirstFloor puts the frequency at up to four times a year, while Bona rates the pad at around 300 washes. On a normal house the bottle is the consumable and the pad is not: you buy it here once and keep it for the coats after this one.
Thin, even coats, worked with the grain, are the whole technique. The full instructions are on the GrainGuard page rather than repeated here.
GrainGuard is a protective coat, not a repair. A floor with deep scratches or worn back to bare timber needs sanding and recoating, which is a different job.
GrainGuard is not for oiled or hardwax-oiled floors, raw or unfinished timber, or floors that need sanding or recoating. If you are not sure which finish you have, test an out-of-the-way patch first, or ask us before you start.
The floor has to be clean and dry before the coat goes on. That is a separate step with a separate product, and it is not in this kit.
Clean the whole floor and let it dry before the coat goes on. This kit does not include a cleaner.

GrainGuard and the microfibre pad that lays it down thin and even.
A cleaning pad, so the applicator pad in this kit never gets used for mopping.
