The coat, and the pad that decides how it lands

Bona's instructions for its Wood Floor Polish name the tool as well as the product: apply a thin, even coat with a Bona Microfibre Applicator Pad, working with the grain. This kit is those two things together, which is worth doing for a reason that is easy to miss.

An applicator pad and a cleaning pad are different pads. The one on your mop has been through months of dirt and cleaner, and a coating laid down with it picks all of that up. Buying them together is how you end up with a pad kept for coating and nothing else.

What is in the kit

1x Bona Wood Floor Polish (Matt), 1 litre - a waterborne maintenance coating for lacquered and sealed floors. Bona describes it as reinforced with polyurethane, filling fine scratches and laying a fresh wear layer, and states coverage of about 50 square metres per litre.
1x Bona Microfibre Applicator Pad - the pad Bona names for applying Polish. Soft, lambswool-style microfibre, 140mm by 250mm, attaches to the Bona mop, and Bona states it is machine washable up to 300 times.

The two are not matched by brand alone. A litre of polish covers about 50 square metres, so on most rooms the bottle is used up in one or two coats, while Bona rates the pad for around 300 washes. The pad is a one-off bought against a job you will do again, which is the sense in which this kit is not simply two products at once.

Choosing between this kit and the Bona Refresher kit is a question about the look, not about the floor. Both are for lacquered floors. This one is matt; the refresher leaves a high gloss.

For lacquered and sealed floors only

On an oiled or waxed floor the surface is different, so a polish will not bond the same way. If you are not certain which finish you have, test an out-of-the-way patch and let it dry before doing the whole floor, or ask us first.

The floor has to be clean and dry before any coat goes on, or the dirt is sealed in under it. That is a separate step with a separate product, and it is not in this kit.
