Re-oiling your floor? Hire the floor machine
When an oiled floor needs a fresh coat of maintenance oil, the FloorBoy XL-300 is made to apply maintenance oil to oiled timber floors. A domestic machine, easy to handle. $120 hire from our Newmarket store, by arrangement.
Before you buy: how to look after an oiled floor
Two jobs, different rhythms. Day to day, clean with a well-wrung mop and an oiled-floor cleaner. Skip anything harsh or high-alkaline, and skip steam mops, which force water and heat into the timber. Then every so often, when the floor starts to look dry or patchy in the busy spots, you top it up with maintenance oil rather than recoating the whole thing. Most homes re-oil high-traffic areas once or twice a year and give the whole floor a professional re-oil every 5 to 10 years, depending on wear.
