Admonter Maintenance Oil White is made for maintaining and refreshing light-coloured oiled timber floors, and suits floors finished with white or lightly tinted hardwax oils. Admonter describes the subtle white tint as helping preserve the pale, clean look of Scandinavian-style finishes, by replenishing the top layer of oil and gently softening yellowed or darkened areas.

It feeds the wood, and keeps it light
A white or light oiled floor is protected by oil in the timber, not by a coat on the surface, and as that oil wears the floor yellows or reads as patchy. Topping the oil back up is what holds the pale character, and the tint does the rest.
Two things to get right
It is for white and light-coloured oiled floors, not for lacquered, sealed or raw timber, which are cared for differently. If you are not sure of your finish, test an out-of-the-way patch first.
Oil-soaked cloths and pads can heat up and catch fire on their own. As with any drying oil, submerge used cloths in water straight after use, and do not leave them screwed up in a bin.
How to apply it, and what to avoid
- Clean the floor first with a cleaner made for oiled floors, and make sure it is dry and dust-free.
- Apply a thin, even coat to the clean, dry timber, by hand on small areas or by buffing machine on larger ones.
- Buff it in for an even finish.
- Let it dry with good ventilation before using the floor.
- Submerge used cloths in water. Oil-soaked cloths can self-combust if left dry.

Do
- Get to the yellowed areas before the whole floor has shifted colour.
- For a whole floor, apply it by machine rather than by hand, as the maker's own instructions describe for larger areas.
Don't
- Lay it on thick. Thin coats cure better.
- Leave used cloths screwed up dry. They can catch fire.
